Title: what steering wheels do people use?
Post by: Viper on May 30, 2010, 10:55:26 am
im guessing that most of the people that play this game and race in the championship use a steering wheel to play the game with?

if so what wheels do you guys use? im just about to finally purchase my first wheel and just wondered what others used and if they had any suggestions on the best one?

G27 is a very good wheel for its price. There are some wheels out there that "claim" to be better, but can get up into the $1000 (U.S) range. I have a G25 and it's been flawless for the last 2 and a half years and I race with it putting in 1000 miles or so a week. You should be extremely happy with it.

yeh iv been doing alot of research before buying, I was trying to look for a good second hand G25 on ebay but they're all rediculously expensive so I decided to just go for the G27
the adjustable pedals, helical gears and more buttons were what swayed it for me, but then I was hoping to use sequental gears which im not going to be able to do but im really looking forward to it arriving

I look forward to racing against you all soon

I am currently using a Logitech Momo FFB Wheel I got for dirt cheap second hand.

Eventually might upgrade to a g27...

Its my F1 wheel project that I started a month ago. Right now I have the basic shape and just trying to figure our best layout for all the buttons. After that going to make a mdf model for mould and then I will make the final version out of the carbon fibre=)

I'm thinking of getting a Logitech Driving Force EX, since that is all I can afford. Has anyone had any experience with this?

im thinking of doing my own similar project sponts, where did you get the display and switches from etc? also did you make the grips or buy them?

There is a guy who actually makes those displays, grips are from a random racing wheel that I modified. As for switches, well that's the easy part, they are available in most electrical shops. If I am successful with this wheel I am actually planning to make few of them for sale.

Not sure if anyone of you guys seen this. I guess he will build you a custom wheel for G25/27 base for 500 euros.

yeh that was put in the controller post awhile ago its an amazing set up, but its a challenge for me to make my own lol, and also I want to make a mclaren replica one rather than a generic kind of wheel

If I had the know-how I would try too. The materials for this type of project cannot be 500 euros. Plus like you said you can get the custom look of a specific teams wheel. Don't forget to put the diamonds in the wheel for mclaren  ;D

lol think that might push it a tiny bit over 500 euros haha

My estimated cost for the 1st wheel is about the same but the next ones will be cheaper to make tho. I am sure he added some on top for himself cause it is a lot of work.

Wheel price is 600.

with all the necessary info. Wheel works with PC only.
You get what you see on this pictures:

And this one is with optional suede grips:

So, you get the steering wheel and the quick release mechanism to mount the wheel. You need to have logitech G25 or G27 to attach my wheel on it.
You don't loose any of the G25 functionality except those on the original wheel. If you have different wheel, than an extra adapter is required (I'll provide it for you).

I'll have further enhanced paddles, fully adjustable and slightly redesigned. That will be on my next wheels.

Wheels are handmade by myself.

To get one, you need to confirm your interest and then I put you on the list.

List is already quite long, so you could get your wheel in 3 months or longer.

No deposit needed. Shipping is 45 regular mail, 90 express delivery. I ship worldwide.

I am hoping to have a website soon.

I'm using a 3year+ old G25 after having gone through 3 Momo Force wheels. They just couldn't hold pressure :-)
My G25 is getting kinda worn now as well, not as "tight" as it used to, a bit more flimsy.
Springs on gear shifters are getting soft as well, but then I've used it a lot.
But overall, I'm very satisfied with the G25, and guess I would be really satisfied with the G27 (except that it's much more pricier than the G25, and not that much difference).

i'd always used a G25 at friends place and stuff when i decided to get my own i ended up getting a G27 cause it was newer and was supposed to be "better"

i took it back about 6hrs after use cause i hated the thing, couldn't get used to it, hated the gear shift, pedals felt crap, and the extra buttons were in the worst spots ever and i kept hitting them accidently.

so i searched and searched and found a decent priced G25 for $180 :)

was in excellent condition and it felt brand new when i got it, bloody awesome wheel.

about the only thing i can see myself upgrading to is that F1 wheel, looks great and i mainly only play F1 games.

and for 600 EU it seems very well priced for how proffesional it looks.

but if i get that, i'll have to go the whole hog and do a 3 display setup with a cockpit lol, and then it starts to get expensive.
